One of the founders of the Emirates Thalassemia Society - Member of the Board of Directors / Executive Director -Secretary since 1997.
She holds a diploma in educational qualification from the Educational Rehabilitation Center in Dubai and a BA in Education and Psychology from the UAE University.
Chair Person of the organizing committee for all activities of the society and the implementer of all major initiatives.
She is also the proprietor of the idea of the most successful awareness campaign, "What is Thalassemia?" Competition, which started in 2007 and still continues. She often holds the title of the ‘Mother of Thalassemia’ from the patients and their families.
She is the recipient of many awards:
Dubai Award for ‘Excellence in Governmental Performance in the Field’ in 2000
‘Personality of October’ from the Emirates Today newspaper in 2012
Sultan Bin Khalifa International Thalassemia Award for ‘Distinguished Personality in the Field of Social Support’ in 2013 Abu Dhabi
‘UAE Pioneers’ along with her husband, Mr Abdul Baset Mohd Merdas, Vice Chairman of the Society's Board of Directors, awarded for being the first couple who established a society to support Thalassemia patients in the United Arab Emirates, in 2015.
She holds the Emirati Woman Shield – ‘The Future Now’ in2016.
She is also the recipient of the Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work as a personal contributor to volunteer work in 2017.
She is the recipient of the National Emirates Award for Humanitarian Action, the fifth session in 2017, in the “Imprint of Hope” category.
