Emirates Thalassemia Society organizes the “Second Brainstorming Session”


  On the occasion of World Thalassemia Day, the Emirates Thalassemia Society organized the second brainstorming session entitled “We gather you today...to make you happy tomorrow” with the aim of developing the services provided by the society to thalassemia patients in cooperation with thalassemia centers in all the emirates of the country and improving them to reach the highest levels of happiness and satisfaction for thalassemia patients in the country, as it is considered Thalassemia patients in the UAE are the happiest and luckiest in the world, and this is clearly evident in the level of medical and therapeutic services in thalassemia centers, due to the unlimited support from our wise government, which has established within us that we are not satisfied with the best, but rather strive for what is beyond, with the support of Her Highness the Sheikha/ Sheikha bint Saif Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association, who does not hesitate to always support patients, in the presence of patients and those who care for them in the health and social systems to learn about their proposals for services that may be available in the future and contribute to alleviating the suffering of patients and contribute to their support and happiness.

The meeting began at ten in the morning in the presence of His Excellency Abdel Baset Merdas, Vice Chairman of the Society’s Board of Directors, and the members of the Society’s Board of Directors. It brought together approximately 60 people, including thalassemia patients and a group of specialized doctors, social workers, and administrators working in the various thalassemia centers and private hospitals in all the emirates of the country, where it was divided Attendance attended five discussion panels, each of which included doctors, social workers, nursing staff, some departments, and thalassemia champions. The sessions also witnessed multiple discussions and notable interaction by the participants, as they exchanged experiences and ideas that contributed to enriching the discussions to crystallize some proposals that aim to improve the services provided to patients to complete the journey. The association supports and assists thalassemia patients in all financial, social, psychological, and recreational fields in cooperation with thalassemia centers. The main topics discussed were what was new in the world of thalassemia in terms of treatment and services, how to support patients who are rejected for treatment in the centers, and what is new in marrow transplantation. Some realistic experiences were also reviewed. For patients who underwent bone marrow transplant operations in various countries, such as the United States of America, Britain, and South Korea, and the difficulties they faced after their return. Good and tangible results emerged from this session and came up with recommendations that meet the recommendations, including increasing cooperation between the Emirates Thalassemia Society, the various thalassemia centers, and private hospitals in the country, and the necessity of Joining efforts to achieve the best results for patients, discussing the issue of thalassemia patients who are refused treatment in the centers with the competent authorities to try to support them as much as possible in a way that does not conflict with the laws, regulations and other recommendations that will contribute to the happiness of the thalassemia champions.

His Excellency Abdul Basit Muhammad Merdas, Vice Chairman of the Society’s Board of Directors, also honored the Ministry of Health and Community Protection by awarding the Ministry’s representatives with the Society’s shield for their support of the initiatives of the Emirates Thalassemia Society on World Thalassemia Day in cooperation with various entities to light the red color on various buildings and landmarks in the country. Mrs. Khaleda Khamas, Member of the Board of Directors, Executive Director of the Emirates Thalassemia Society and Head of the Organizing Committee for the event, expressed her happiness, saying that today’s brainstorming session was characterized by the richness of ideas drawn from the experience she has. She invited the audience, explaining that the goal of these sessions is to interact, exchange viewpoints, and provide creative solutions and proposals to reach the best ways to support and make patients happy. The sessions have yielded many ideas that will be studied, classified, worked on, and included in the association’s work plan for the coming period in cooperation with health authorities and thalassemia centers. In the country.

Khaleda pointed out the important roles that the association plays in supporting and assisting thalassemia patients in all fields, in addition to spreading health and cultural awareness about thalassemia to all members of society to limit the spread of thalassemia and limit the birth of new infections.
