As part of the World Thalassemia Conference which was held in Abu Dhabi Exhibition Center from 20th to 23rd October 2013, an idea of uniting societies under one roof was initiated by introducing the Global Thalassemia Pavilion. The idea was successfully executed by Khalida Khammas- Executive Director and CEO of the Society, who visualized and made this idea come to reality, adding another star on the UAE. Global Thalassemia Pavilion was inaugurated by Her Highness Sheikha  Sheikha Bint Saif Al-Nahyan, the Chair person of the Emirates Thalassemia Society. 15 societies from different parts of the world enthusiastically participated to make this pavilion a huge success. 

This was the first idea of its kind which was instigated in World Thalassemia Conference and which was the only idea which received everyone’s commendation and achieved its objectives of efficiently communicating and exchanging of experiences among the societies from all around the world in context of  Thalassemia.

His Excellency Panos Anglesios, President of Thalassemia International Federation, commented that this pavilion was the biggest surprise for him and the execution of  Global Thalassemia Pavilion was the most successful program which he saw during his last thirty years of attendance in conferences. He also confirmed that the village will be officially organized in all future Thalassemia International Conferences all over the world as it solved the issues of miscommunication among the societies, pointing out that they spent a lot of time and effort in order to create effective communication platforms but Emirates Thalassemia Society managed to achieve this efficiently through this revolutionary idea.
