Workshop title: A plan to reach a thalassemia free society and ways to improve the quality of life of thalassemia patient in the country Number of participants: 20 people Themes of discussion: Health and society Main recommendations:
* Providing governmental support to the Emirates Thalassemia Society to ensure its continuity due to the negative impact of its absence on the society of the United Arab Emirates.
* The necessity to ensure the continuity of the association because it represents the United Arab Emirates globally, especially as it is a permanent member of the World Organization for Thalassemia.
* Putting in place future controls for those coming to the country with regard to their health condition (that is, being Thalassemia patients), and this will reduce the huge treatment costs that fall on the state's shoulders.
* Spreading the culture of thalassemia patients to the community and using influencers on social media sites and content makers.
* Developing a future plan to reach a healthy community free of new thalassemia births through two strategies:
1- The necessity to issue a law that prevents the two intending to marry from getting married in the event that both of them carry the genetic characteristic of Thalassemia.
2- Providing marrow transplants for all thalassemia patients in the country to eliminate thalassemia.
* Focusing on raising the quality of life for thalassemia patients through:
1- Eliminating the challenges that patients face in the labor market and signing a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation to provide job opportunities for Thalassemia patients and to follow up their affairs in the work sector.
2- Focusing on implementing awareness campaigns on the necessity of (blood donation) and other campaigns calling for the effectiveness of the thalassemia patient and that he is a productive person who is able to marry and work.
