Under the patronage of HH Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Humanitarian Foundation, a delegation for UAE Thalassemia patients from the Emirates Thalassemia Society was cordially invited on the Moon Island Resort in Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi. The delegation included more than 50 Thalassemia patients from different thalassemia centers in UAE (Dubai, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah). The delegation was led by the respected Abdul Basset Mohammed Merdas, Vice Chairman of the Society, accompanied by a number of other respected Board Members, supervisors, social workers and nurses from the selected centers.

The Emirates Thalassemia Society participated in this trip as part of its series of initiatives to mark the "Year of Zayed" and its emphasis on putting all its concerns in the implementation of the supreme directives launched by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan to continue the goodness approach and to highlight Sheikh Zayed’s contribution to humanity and the good impact that had been a source of pride for the entire country. The society’s main objective was to focus on supporting Thalassemia patients from all aspects of life such as financial assistance, tuition fees, etc., as well as moral, social and recreational support to alleviate the lifelong sufferings of Thalassemia patients, simultaneously bringing joy to their hearts.

The two-day trip included several recreational activities such as cultural competitions and brainstorming sessions, which witnessed many discussions about innovative ideas from our patients who came from different emirates of UAE and also identified a lot of their new proposals and wishes. These active discussions were conducted by Mrs. Khalida Khammas, CEO and Executive Secretary of the Society. Mrs Khalida also expressed her utmost thanks and gratitude to Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian and Scientific Affairs for the generous hospitality of Thalassemia patients for the second time and their keenness to communicate with the patients and provide support to them, affirming the happiness of the patients with such caring and special hospitality. The patients spent a great time on the island. And the awesome trip just did not end here, the patients were also overwhelmed by the surprise visit of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan on the Island which accelerated in them the spirit of happiness and hope and alleviated their suffering for the time being. Sheikh Khalifa also personally spent time sitting amongst the patients and talking to them briefly.

Overall, the trip experience will forever remain memorable and the patients returned back with a lot of happy memories!
